Die Wirbelwind Kanone existierte wirklich und war zum Schutz
einer Brücke an der Elbe stationiert.

The Whirlwind cannon really exists and was stationed at the river Elbe
to protect a bridge.

Zippermeyer, ein Erfinder aus Tirol in Österreich, fand heraus das starke Wirbelwinde Flugzeuge zum Absturz bringen konnten oder zumindest so stark beeinflussten das sie nicht mehr steuerbar waren.

Die Wirbelwinde enstanden in einer Verbrennungskammer und wurden durch eine spezielle Düse in den Himmel geschossen.
Experimente zeigten das auf einer Entfernung von ca.183 Meter ; 10 centimeter dicke Bretter zerstört werden konnten.

Zippermeyer, a inventor from Tirol in Austria, witnessed that whirlwinds could bring a plane down, or at least harm it that much that it was uncontrollable.
He therefore proposed to produce such whirlwinds by generating explosions in a combustion chamber and blast them into the ait through special nozzles.
Experiments showed that four-inch planks could be shattered at 200-yard range.

Auf diesem Photo sehen wir bei genauer Betrachtung im Vordergrund einen Menschen der die gewaltige Grösse der Wirbelwind Kanone erahnen lässt.
In der Praxis fand mann schnell heraus das die Kanone zwar funktionierte aber die gewünschten Höhen , um feindliche Flugzeuge zu bekämpfen, nicht erreicht werden konnten.Das Projekt Wirbelwind Kanone wurde demnach eingestellt.

If we take a closer look at the picture above we see a human in front of the cannon who show us the great size of this weapon. The cannon was working well, but unfortunately it proved impossible to produce the desired effects at altitudes high enough to have any effect on enemy aircraft.
The projekt Whirlwind cannon was abandoned.
